High Street Cohousing Project
The High Street Cohousing project is NZ’s first Passive House multi unit housing development. The project was initiated in 2014 by a small group of local Dunedin residents who believed that by developing the land as a group they could create something far more sophisticated than the typical NZ 4 bedroom/2 car garage subdivision.
The group purchased a central city site formerly occupied by High Street School and for the past 6 years they have been working with Architype to develop plans to create an affordable, sustainable and sociable cohousing neighbourhood.
The neighbourhood which is designed around a common central green space includes 24 homes of varying sizes. All houses are freehold unit titles and will have everything one would expect in a typical house, kitchen, dining, lounge, bathrooms and laundry facilities etc. However, in addition, occupants will also have access to a range of shared facilities housed within the existing re purposed school building. Shared facilities include a large multi purpose space, commercial sized kitchen, workshop, laundry, guest rooms and social space and a bookable meeting rooms.
